Roberto Clemente, Jr. signing autographs for the Legal Eagles of Curwensville and others. Mr. Clemente is the son of the former Pirate great and Hall of Famer, Rightfielder, Roberto Clemente. Roberto Clemente wore No. 21 and joined 3,000 hit club on the final day of the 1972 off New York Met pitcher Jon Matlock. He also won 12 Gold Glove Awards, he was MVP of the 1966 Season and the MVP of the 1971 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles. Tragically, Clemente died in a plane crash on December 31, 1972, while taking relief items to Nicaraga earthquake victims. (Photo by Mark Falvo).

Roberto Clemente, Jr. signing autographs for members of the Legal Eagles of Curwensville. Clemente, Jr. also played baseball at the minor league level. He was signed in 1984, by the Philadelphia Phillies and was plagued by injuries. Eventually, the Philles organization signed him him to their organization, joining their division A-team. He insisted on making the major leagues and he traveled to Puerto Rico and played winter baseball league, with the Arecibo Wolves team. A serioes of injuries prevented Clemente Jr. from making the major leagues after being traded to the San Diego Padres organization. Determined to make the majors leagues, Clemente Jr. traveled to Venezula, where he became a well known player, but, during try outs with the Baltimore Orioles, he suffered a career ending injury to his back. After retiring from Major League Baseball, Clemente, Jr. returned to Puerto Rico to help his mother in her quest to open the Roberto Clemente Sports City and, in 1992, he created the RBI Baseball Program, aimed at bringing children to his sport. Clemente, Jr. also went to Pittsburgh to establish the Roberto Clemente Foundation in 1993, which made him president of two baseball organization at the same time. (Photo by Mark Falvo).
