Curwensville Elementary fifth grade students recently learned about the history and the duties of a sheriff at a recent Legal Eagle program. Clearfield County Sheriff Chester Hawkins said the sheriff is the only law enforcement officer who is elected. He is the chief conserver of the peace in his jurisdiction.
