A day in the life of -- Cuwensville Area Elementary fifth grade Legal Eagles peeked into a day in the life of District Justice Jim Hawkins, Houtzdale. He told students that his office is the first place many offenders see when entering the criminal justice system. Mr. Hawkins told the students that he can't arrest people. Instead he conducts preliminary hearings to determine if enough evidence is presented to send the case to court. The best part of his job is talking to the youth. The worse part is being on call for a 24-hour rotation, he said.
